Professor Alessio Nencioni, MD, PhD

Associate Professor of Geriatrics, University of Genoa, Italy.

Professor Nencioni earned his MD degree at the University of Genoa in 1999 and completed his residency in internal medicine at the same university. He received additional training in the Department of Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, University of Tuebingen; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Cancer Research; and the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.

In 2007, Nencioni established his laboratory at the University of Genoa, focusing primarily on cancer metabolism and on the preclinical and clinical applications of fasting and fasting-mimicking diets in disease conditions. He is a founding member of the European Association for Systems Medicine and is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the Italian Society for Geriatrics and Gerontology. In addition to his research projects, he works as an attending physician at the Geriatrics Clinic of the Ospedale Policlinico San Martino in Genoa.
